Connecticut Waivers Terminated Today

Connecticut Commissioner of Revenue Services, Kevin B. Sullivan announced that effective today, November 14, 2012 the waiver allowing contractors and line technicians licensed in other states, the ability to work in Connecticut without registering first to be terminated.  A termination notice was released.

The original waiver was signed by Governor Malloy on October 29, 2012 in order to allow out-of-state businesses to come and aid with the cleanup after Storm Sandy.  Connecticut no longer requires the aid and with the termination of the waiver, the regular registration process begins.

Hurricane Sandy Relief Special Waivers for HUT and IFTA Credentials

The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance granted a special waiver of the Highway Use Tax and IFTA Credentials for those aiding in disaster relief efforts.  Below is from the release.

This notice will confirm that for the period October 26, 2012, through January 24, 2013, motor vehicles operated on the highways of New York State, when exclusively providing disaster assistance, supplies, and equipment in response to Hurricane Sandy, do not need a HUT certificate of registration, HUT decal, IFTA license, or IFTA decals that are ordinarily required. In addition, carriers operating their motor vehicles to provide disaster assistance, supplies, and equipment to aid in the relief efforts will not be liable for the highway use tax or fuel use tax on miles traveled and fuel consumed in New York State. This waiver applies only to travel in New York State. If traveling in any other jurisdiction, carriers must comply with all credential requirements for that jurisdiction.

Many other states have issued similar waivers to aid in the relief effort.  Virginia issued a temporary waiver of registration and license requirements through November 30, 2012.  For specific details go to http://www.iftach.org/.

In New Jersey, Governor Christie authorized the temporary waiver of all IRP and IFTA requirements for all commercial vehicles aiding in the relief efforts.  See http://www.iftach.org/ for the full release.

Similar waivers were authorized in Kentucky, Virginia, Connecticut and Illinois.
